Trial in the case of believers from Guba region Nizami Najafov, Vafanur Mammadov, and his brother Vafadar Mammadov will begin in the Baku Serious Crimes Court on July 10. They were arrested in January this year under the Article 228.2.1 of the Criminal Code (illegal possession of weapons and ammunition to a group of persons.) However, according to the results of the preliminary investigation, the arrested were added charges under the Articles 144.2.3 and 144.2.6 (kidnapping by preliminary arrangement by group of persons.) According to Rahima Mamedova, mother of the arrested brothers, the case was fabricated. She reported that previously Geybulla Mamedov, father of the arrested brothers, was arrested for 10 years for criticizing local officials for bribery. According to her, Nizami Mammadov and Vafanur Najafov were initially accused of belonging to a radical religious group, but then of illegal possession of weapons. It is noteworthy that Vafadar lived in Baku and was arrested when he arrived in Guba region to the trial in the case of his father. As for the charges of kidnapping, according to Rahima Mamedova, the accuse is based on false testimony of one of the residents, whose brother is a police officer.
