“The US loses the right to mediate in the peace process in the South Caucasus” – Dr. Ahmad Shahidov spoke to Ulusal Kanal Television

There is tension in the relations between Azerbaijan and the United States. On November 15, hearings on the future of Karabakh were held in the House of Representatives of the US Congress, and US Assistant Secretary of State James O’Brien spoke at those hearings. He uttered anti-Azerbaijani statements and made prejudiced statements against Azerbaijan.

In response to this, the Azerbaijani side refused to participate in the meeting of the heads of foreign affairs of Azerbaijan and Armenia scheduled to be held in Washington on November 20.

Commenting on the issue to Turkiye’s Ulusal Kanal Television, political analyst Dr. Ahmad Shahidov said that the USA is already losing its right to mediate in the peace process in the South Caucasus: “The US has been one of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, which has been dealing with the settlement of the former Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for nearly 30 years and we witnessed the biased attitude of the USA in those times as well. There can be no question of neutrality here. Even today, the USA expresses through the language of its officials that it is not interested in the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the signing of a peace treaty. The United States, in general, is a state that has completely lost its neutrality”.
