Putin, Aliyev and Pashinyan to meet in Sochi – Ahmad Shahidov comments on TRT World`s “News Hour”

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan holds trilateral talks in Sochi on Monday, October 31.

The Kremlin’s press office reported last week in a statement that “[They] plan to focus on the implementation of the trilateral agreements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia of November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021, and on further steps to enhance stability and security in the Transcaucasus.”

Talking to the TRT World channel, political analyst Dr. Ahmad Shahidov said that no need to expect a serious result from the Putin-Aliyev-Pashinyan meeting held in Sochi today: “Because this meeting is only intended to maintain Russia’s influence mechanism in the region and is a response to the USA and Europe.
Before that, meetings between Azerbaijan and Armenia were held in the USA and Europe, and official Washington and the European Union are trying to conduct a mediation mission. Of course, this is against Russia’s interests in the South Caucasus. In this regard, Vladimir Putin is trying to show that Russia can be the only mediator in this conflict by meeting with Aliyev and Pashinyan from time to time.”
