On March 13-14, a conference titled “Media Freedom as a Central Pillar of Comprehensive Security” was organized by the OSCE Chairpersonship of North Macedonia, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) in Vienna, the capital of Austria.
The issue of freedom of the media in the OSCE region was widely discussed at the meeting attended by representatives from OSCE participating States, OSCE institutions and other executive structures and international organizations, civil society and other stakeholders and representatives of state institutions from 57 countries.
Speaking at the event, the head of the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, Dr. Ahmad Shahidov reported on the current state of media freedom in Turkiye and said that some Western countries and international press organizations published biased reports on the situation in Turkiye, and in many cases, representatives of the PKK and FETO terrorist organizations, which committed serious crimes against Turkiye, were presented as “journalists” in the published reports.
Dr. Ahmad Shahidov pointed out that media freedom is ensured in Turkiye, and said that during the strong earthquake in Turkiye, the French Charlie Hebdo magazine published biased and hateful cartoons and articles against Turkiye, and noted that similar propaganda was observed in other European countries as well.
