“The Karabakh issue was resolved two years ago” – Dr. Ahmad Shahidov evaluated the Sochi Summit to BenguTurk

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met in Sochi.

Speaking to the BenguTurk Television on the subject, political analyst Dr. Ahmad Shahidov stated that there is no need to expect a serious result from the Putin-Aliyev-Pashinyan meeting held in Sochi: “Because this meeting is only for maintaining Russia’s influence mechanism in the region and is a response to the USA and Europe.
Before that, talks were held between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the USA and Europe, and official Washington and the European Union are trying to carry out a mediation mission. Of course, this is against Russia’s interests in the South Caucasus. In this context, Vladimir Putin is trying to show that Russia can be the only mediator in this conflict by meeting with Aliyev and Pashinyan from time to time.”

Parallel to the meeting of the leaders, the foreign ministers Sergey Lavrov, Jeyhun Bayramov and Ararat Mirzoyan also held a tripartite meeting.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan accepted the joint statement after their trilateral meeting in Sochi.

In the statement published on the Kremlin website, it was stated that the three leaders discussed the implementation of the declarations adopted in 2020 and 2021. It was noted that the parties reiterated their commitment to strictly adhere to all these agreements with the aim of comprehensively normalizing Azerbaijan-Armenia relations, ensuring peace, stability, security and sustainable economic development of the South Caucasus.
