U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent meeting with the NATO Secretary General and his strong statements regarding the Russia-Ukraine war have become a key topic of international discussion. Speaking to CGTN Türk, political analyst Dr. Ahmad Shahidov said that President Trump is now adopting a tougher stance toward Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Since taking office, President Trump prioritized direct dialogue with Russia to bring an end to the war in Ukraine. However, the Kremlin’s refusal to de-escalate and its continued aggression have forced Trump to take firmer action. He has given Putin a 50-day deadline, warning that if attacks do not stop within that period, concrete countermeasures will follow,” Dr. Shahidov stated.
According to Dr. Shahidov, President Trump has already decided to provide Ukraine with additional military assistance:
“Trump has approved the delivery of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. However, the financial burden of this aid will be covered not by the U.S., but by European countries. This move is part of a broader strategy to rebalance responsibility within NATO and push Europe into a more active role.”
The political analyst added that President Trump’s position is based on the principle of “diplomacy first, followed by decisive action if necessary.”
At present, the U.S. administration is planning to increase pressure—together with European allies—to find a peaceful resolution to the situation in Ukraine.
