Dr. Ahmad Shahidov condemned attacks against Azerbaijanis in Russia — issued a global appeal from Washington DC

Currently in Washington, international law defender and human rights activist Dr. Ahmad Shahidov made a public call to the international community regarding the recent violent attacks against ethnic minorities in Russia.

Dr. Ahmad Shahidov stated that Azerbaijanis, Central Asians, Muslims, and people of Caucasian origin are being systematically attacked, beaten, detained, and in some cases, killed in Russia. He highlighted that shocking videos circulating on social media show innocent people being assaulted in the streets, businesses being destroyed, and police officers either standing by or actively joining in these attacks.

Dr. Ahmad Shahidov described these incidents as a clear violation of international law and fundamental human rights. He emphasized that staying silent in the face of such brutality is a betrayal of humanity and justice.

Calling from Washington, Dr. Ahmad Shahidov urged the United Nations, the European Union, the Council of Europe, the OSCE, and all international human rights organizations to immediately intervene, to send independent observers to monitor the situation on the ground in Russia, and to put pressure on Russian authorities to end this violence.

Dr. Ahmad Shahidov also made a special appeal to the President of the United States, calling on him to openly condemn these atrocities, to take a firm stance against Russia, and to remind the world that human rights are not just for powerful nations but for every human being.

“If ethnic minorities are attacked there today, tomorrow it will be others, and one day it might be you. Human rights belong to everyone.” said Dr. Ahmad Shahidov, concluding his statement from Washington.
