Tomorrow, a peace accord to be signed between Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan – Baku TV special broadcast

On Friday, August 8, at the initiative of U.S. President Donald Trump, a high-level meeting will be held at the White House in Washington between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. This meeting is viewed as a logical continuation of the intensified diplomatic process of recent months and is considered one of the most significant steps toward resolving the long-standing conflict in the South Caucasus through political means.

According to diplomatic sources, the parties had previously reached important agreements in Abu Dhabi under the mediation of the United Arab Emirates. The main goal of the trilateral meeting at the White House will be to formalize these preliminary understandings, sign the final peace accord, and approve a roadmap for the complete resolution of the conflict.

Washington’s interest in this initiative extends beyond regional stability. The Trump administration sees the meeting both as a strengthening of the United States’ role as an international mediator and as a personal diplomatic achievement for the President. White House officials believe that the agreement will generate new political and economic opportunities for Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the South Caucasus as a whole.

Political commentator Ahmad Shahidov, currently in Washington, told Baku TV that the White House meeting is a historic opportunity for the region and that tangible outcomes are expected:
“This time, the process may not remain limited to official statements. Donald Trump is pursuing this initiative not as an ordinary diplomatic mission, but with his personal political will. His aim is not only to bring peace between the two countries but also to strengthen the United States’ role as a global mediator. This will both enhance Washington’s prestige and lay the foundation for long-term stability in the region,” he emphasized.

Ahmad Shahidov also underlined that the issues to be discussed will not be limited to the peace accord. The agenda includes opportunities for economic cooperation, the opening of borders, the reactivation of transport and energy corridors, and the revival of humanitarian relations:
“If a final agreement is reached at this meeting, it will not only mark the end of the conflict. It will also signify the beginning of a completely new phase, with regional economic integration, new trade routes, and free movement of people,” he added.

The political commentator further stressed that diplomatic circles in Washington are looking to the outcome of the meeting with great anticipation and are providing the highest level of support to ensure its success.
