Azerbaijan-U.S. relations are rising to the level of strategic alliance — Ahmad Shahidov spoke to ARB24 Television

On August 8, at the initiative of U.S. President Donald Trump, a historic meeting took place at the White House in Washington between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, resolving the decades-long conflict through political means. As a result of the meeting, the parties signed a final peace agreement laying the foundation for a new era of stability and cooperation in the South Caucasus.

According to diplomatic sources, this agreement was reached as a continuation of intensive negotiations held in Abu Dhabi with the mediation of the United Arab Emirates. The Washington meeting formalized the preliminary agreements and approved a concrete roadmap for ensuring lasting peace.

The Trump administration views this outcome not only as a step toward regional stability but also as a strengthening of the United States’ role as an international mediator. According to White House officials, the signed agreement will open new economic and political opportunities for Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the entire South Caucasus.

Speaking to ARB24 Television from Washington about this historic milestone, political commentator Ahmad Shahidov described the peace agreement as a true turning point for the region: “This is not just a diplomatic gesture; it is an agreement that will yield tangible results. Donald Trump advanced this process with his personal political will, and his aim went beyond securing peace between the two countries. This step will both strengthen the U.S.’s position as a global mediator and create a solid foundation for long-term stability in the region.”

According to Shahidov, the signed document is not limited to ending the conflict: “The agreement covers important areas such as economic cooperation, opening borders, restoring transportation and energy corridors, and developing humanitarian ties. This will provide vast opportunities for economic integration among regional countries, the opening of new trade routes, and the free movement of people.”

In the interview, Ahmad Shahidov also addressed the issue of the U.S. freezing Section 907, noting that this move sends an important signal for a new stage in Azerbaijan-U.S. relations. He emphasized that a favorable environment now exists for expanding cooperation between the two countries.

The political commentator underlined that Washington’s diplomatic circles highly value this historic achievement and will continue to support the process to ensure lasting peace.
