Egypt’s influential Al Ghad Television discussed the Zangezur Corridor and recent developments in the South Caucasus, particularly the peace agreement reached in Washington DC between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The program featured a debate between Iranian journalist and political commentator Said Shaverdi and Washington-based political analyst Dr. Ahmad Shahidov.
Iranian expert Said Shaverdi claimed that “with the Zangezur Corridor, U.S. and Israeli troops would allegedly enter the region, followed by NATO forces moving into the South Caucasus.”
In response, Dr. Ahmad Shahidov stressed that after 35 years of conflict, peace has been achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia. According to him, while peace talks held in various capitals after 2020 yielded no results, the negotiations at the White House were ultimately successful, with the U.S. taking on the role of guarantor in the process.
Dr. Ahmad Shahidov further emphasized that the “Trump Route” is purely an economic project, with no question of any military presence in the region. He described Iran’s assertions as baseless and biased.
