The summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House failed to deliver the expected results. Russia’s maximalist demands remain on the table and have not been accepted, while military operations in Ukraine continue without pause.
European leaders appear determined to maintain their support for Ukraine, but Trump’s peace initiatives have not yet produced any tangible outcomes. Analysts suggest that if the situation continues in this way, the U.S. President may withdraw from his mediating role.
Speaking to CGTN Turk Television from Washington DC, political analyst Ahmad Shahidov underlined that while the summit clarified both sides’ positions, no concrete progress was made toward resolving the conflict: “Russia’s hardline and uncompromising stance is clearly visible. There are no signs of de-escalation in Ukraine. European support for Ukraine continues, but Trump’s peace initiatives have not yet produced real results, and it is possible that he will reconsider his role as mediator.”
