“India’s water terrorism creates a new risk of war in South Asia” – Ahmad Shahidov spoke to ARB24 Television

India’s water policy and the flood disaster in Pakistan have become one of the key topics on the international agenda. In recent weeks, severe floods in Punjab province and other parts of Pakistan have left thousands homeless and claimed the lives of hundreds. The government in Islamabad has accused India of manipulating river flows and releasing water suddenly, further worsening the situation. Experts warn that these actions violate the Indus Waters Treaty signed in 1960 and are creating a new hotspot of regional tension.

Political commentator Ahmad Shahidov commented on the issue in his remarks to ARB24. According to him, India’s deliberate water releases are a violation of international law and bring the concept of “water terrorism” into focus:

“If India unilaterally withdraws from this treaty, it will pose a serious threat not only to Pakistan but to the entire region. The weaponization of water could become a new cause of war. Yet, despite all these challenges, Pakistan is a strong and resilient state and will overcome these provocations.”
