Today, tensions remain on the frontline, and Armenian armed forces continue to fire on civilian villages and civilian targets. The Azerbaijani army also fires back and neutralizes Armenian firing points. Today, the skirmishes on the frontline are actively continuing, and the ceasefire agreement announced on October 18 has already been violated. The responsibility for this lies with the Armenian government.
On the other hand, international organizations and many countries are calling on the parties to cease fire and start peace talks. Azerbaijan is ready to start negotiations. But for this, the basic principles must be followed. The territorial integrity of countries and international law must be taken as a basic principle. In this case, Azerbaijan is ready to start negotiations.
However, Armenia is not ready for peace talks, and official Yerevan has no such intention. Today’s statement by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan gives grounds to say so.
The Armenian prime minister’s statement that the conflict has no diplomatic solution once again demonstrates that Armenia is not interested in the settlement of the conflict through negotiations. With this statement, the Armenian leadership admits that Armenia’s goal is to keep Azerbaijani lands under occupation. Thus, it is once again confirmed that the statements of official Yerevan on the peaceful settlement of the conflict are nothing more than a lie.
This remark by the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was made immediately after the working visit by foreign ministers of the two countries to Moscow at Russia’s initiative and before the meeting at the United States’ initiative in Washington at the level of foreign ministers. In recent interviews and statements to international media, President Ilham Aliyev has repeatedly stated Azerbaijan’s readiness for negotiations and a diplomatic solution to the conflict. Azerbaijan supports the solution of the conflict through negotiations based on the UN Security Council resolutions.
In his interview to TRT World, Ahmad Shahidov, head of Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, said that Pashinyan’s statement shows Armenia’s disinterest in resolving the conflict: “The Azerbaijani army has to implement four UN Security Council resolutions, and today military operations on the front continue successfully. Every day new villages and settlements are liberated. The president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has declared once again that there is no status quo. Azerbaijan has destroyed the status quo and we have done what is right. Azerbaijan has been waiting for about 30 years. Ten years ago, at the level of the Minsk Group co-chairs and their presidents, a statement was made that the status quo was unacceptable. We also supported it, we liked it, we had high hopes, and then some progress at the negotiating table raised our hopes. But Armenian simply deceived Azerbaijan and the international community. This is disrespect for international mediators as well.”
