“Armenia worries that Azerbaijani hostages will be welcomed as a hero” – Ahmad Shahidov

Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia issued a statement on the process of exchanging the captives and hostages on the principle of “All to all” put forward by official Baku. Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Anna Nagdalyan told the local press that “the Armenian Foreign Ministry has always supported the real humanitarian steps, but these humanitarian actions should not result in the impunity of grave crimes.”

The representative of Armenian Foreign Ministry claimed that Azerbaijani civilians Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev, taken hostage by Armenia alleged “committing a grave crime and killing civilians” and said that they are against the “heroism” of these individuals.

Commenting on this statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Ahmad Shahidov, the coordinator of the Information Center for Azerbaijani Captives and Hostages, said that official Yerevan is concerned about the process of exchanging the captives and hostages on the principle of “All to all” put forward by official Baku: “According to the agreement on humanitarian steps reached in Vienna and Moscow, official Yerevan has already taken some steps. The recent statement made by Defense Minister David Tonoyan, as well as the current statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, gives grounds for this. While Armenia says that they are ready to take humanitarian steps, but official Yerevan is also concerned that Azerbaijani hostages will be welcomed as heroes in homeland and Armenia expresses this clearly. I think it is Armenia’s subjective opinion. The Azerbaijani state and society will decide on what action they will deal with.”
