Ahmad Shahidov protested against Mikhail Avagyan’s monument at international forum in Tbilisi

An international forum on “Disinformation and False Propaganda in Eastern Partnership Countries” was held on 13rd February in Tbilisi, Georgia. At the meeting, attended by state and government representatives from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Moldova, Poland, the Czech Republic, as well as representatives of European institutions and media, were heard speeches on disinformation and false propaganda in conflict zones.

Participating in the international forum, human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov, head of the Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, informed about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict facing Azerbaijan, spoke about the Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons, and conveyed the truth about the Azerbaijani captives and hostages.

Human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov, during his speech, appealed to Georgian officials and said he regrets the issue of erecting monument to Armenian terrorist Mikhail Avagyan in Akhalkalaki region of Georgia on January 20, and stressed that such steps can damage relations between the two countries: “On the 20th of last month, on the sad day of the Azerbaijani people we received disappointing news from neighboring Georgia. Monument to Armenian terrorist Mikhail Avagyan was erected in Akhalkalaki region. This is the person who has been closely involved in the Khojaly genocide against the Azerbaijani people in February 1992 and has killed hundreds of innocent people. Naturally, Azerbaijan is feeling great regret about this step of Georgia.”

It should be noted that the representatives of Georgia were unable to answer these words of the Azerbaijani human rights defender.
