Recent statement of Serzh Sargsyan and Armenian opposition leader’s asylum in Baku to be discussed at OSCE meeting

On September 28 the next sessions of Human Dimension Implementation Meeting of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) has been continued with the participation of high raked officials, ministers, Ambassadors, NGOs representatives and human rights advocates from 57 OSCE participating states. The meeting featured discussions on freedom of movement, refugees and fundamental freedoms.

Ahmad Shahidov Head of Azerbaijani Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (AIDHR) also joined the discussions and made a speech on the state of human rights in Armenia. He further elaborated on Vahan Martirosyan who asked for political asylum in Azerbaijan.

Head of AIDHR recalled the statement made by Vahan Martirosyan during the press conference held in Baku. Mr. Shahidov also noted that Serj Sarkisyan is not only enemy of Azerbaijan but also Armenian nation.

In the end of his speech, Head of AIDHR recalled the statement that was made by Serj Sarkisyan at the meeting held in Yerevan. In his statement Armenian president called Nagorno Kharabakh as a part of Armenian territory. According to Mr. Shahidov this very stance of Serj Sarkisyan once again indicates Armenian’s ignorance towards international laws and denying operation of OSCE Minsk group and leading to break of war.

By addressing to the co-chairs of OSCE Minsk group that include representatives from USA, Russia and France, head of AIDHR demanded from them to put forward their stance on recent statement of Serj Sarkisyan.
