US Senator John McCain: “Putin’s next target is Azerbaijan”

The 10th annual GLOBSEC 2015 Bratislava Global Security Forum continued its panel of discussions on June 21. The forum which was attended by high ranked officials of Europe focused on security issues, counter-terrorism and Russian external policy.

The panel that devoted to “USA and Cooperation with Europe” was attended by distinguished panelists such as US Senators John McCain, Tom Cotton and John Barrasso. In their remarks they touched on US foreign policy and European security issue, they also answered questions from the floor.

Attending the panel head of AIDHR Ahmad Shahidov addressed questions to the Senator on existing conflicts in the South Caucasus and Nagorno Kharabakh, in particular US stance regarding Azerbaijan. By answering Mr. Shahidov’s question, US Senator John McCain noted that the situation with Armenia is crystal clear as the country is completely dependent on Russia. The statement reads: “As for Azerbaijan, sadly to say that Putin’s next target is Azerbaijan and we expect it to happen. When it comes to Nagorno Kharabakh conflict, the peaceful resolution of the conflict goes through the willingness of the sides. US deeply appreciates each steps taken in sake of building peace”.
