Representatives of the Ombudsman seeking the father of Lamia Guliyeva’s child
On behalf of the Ombudswoman, the members of the National Preventive Force on the Prevention of Torture visited a prisoner whom the convicted Lamia Guliyeva called the father of her child. Lamia Guliyeva was convicted in 2003 for the murder of Ruslan Aslanov, the son of the then chief executive of Shamkir region Aslan Aslanov. The reason for the murder was that Ruslan had an intimate relationship with Lamia, when she was 12 years old. When she wanted to marry, Ruslan told her groom about his connection with Lamia. Lamia and her fiancé appointed a meeting with Ruslan, and killed him with Ruslan knife.
In October 2014 Guliyeva gave birth to a child in jail, and in January this year that fact became public and caused a public outcry. Guliyeva is not married, and long meeting are allowed only with family members. In this regard, the media speculated about a possible rape by prison staff.
However, after representatives of the Ombudsman visited Guliyeva, they spread a message on her behalf that she voluntarily had a sexual relationship with one of the prisoners, when she was temporarily in the pre-trial jail. Now, however, representatives of the Ombudsman visited the person whom Guliyeva called the father of her child. According to the Ombudsman, the prisoner, in order to avoid the problems that can arise in his family, asked not to be named.
He noted that some time ago he was with Guliyeva in a prison, but did not have “live contact” with her. He was taken blood samples for DNA testing in order to determine the child’s father. The prisoner was told that he was subjected to pressure and violence, and wrote about this to the Ombudsman.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Justice is currently conducting a thorough investigation, both parties were taken evidence, and test results will be published.
