Trial in the case of Hijran Qasimov, the activist of Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), who is accused of drug possession, finished today in the Nakhchivan City Court. The court sentenced him to 2.5 years of imprisonment, according to relatives of the accused.
Previously Chairman of Nakhchivan Department of PPFA, Yashar Bagirsoy said that Hijran Gasimov denied the allegations of drug trafficking and hooliganism, calling them far-fetched.
*Hijran Gasimov was arrested in November last year. He was charged under Article 234.1 (illegal drugs) and 128 (causing less grievous bodily harm.) Family members of Gasimov stated that the reason for his arrest was his political orientation.
