New provocation against Ilgar Mamedov?
Ilgar Mamedov, a leader of REAL Movement, who is in the pre-trial jail in Sheki region, is afraid of provocations against him, the executive director of REAL Movement, Natig Jafarli, wrote about it on his Facebook page. According to him, during seven months Mamedov was held in a solitary confinement in jail in Sheki. However, on May 31 prison management representative came to Mamedov , and advised him to be careful , because there is a snake in his ward. On June 1 the same man came to Mamedov and said that a new prisoner will be placed to him. Later two smokers prisoners were place in his ward, although prison leadership knows that he cannot stand cigarette smoke.
Mamedov told his relatives on the phone what is happening , including the postponement of the trial of the Court of Appeal, that it is the psychological pressure on him.
According to the lawyer Fuad Agayev, under the law , a prisoner has a right to remain in solitary confinement. On the other hand, it is dangerous to health to place the smoker in the same cell with no smoker. The lawyer intends to meet with Mamedov June 5.
On March 17 Ilgar Mamedov was sentenced to seven years in prison in connection with Ismayilly events.
On May 22 the European Court of Human Rights found a violation of Mamedov’s rights. Earlier, Amnesty International recognized Mamedov “as prisoner of conscience.”
