Head of AIDHR to talk about rights of ethnic minorities at OSCE Warsaw meeting – VIDEO

In his remarks Ahmad Shahidov noted that 120 thousand Armenians reside in Azerbaijan while 30 Azerbaijanis live in Armenia

OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) organized its next meeting that titled “The Human Dimension Implementation” in Warsaw, Poland on September 29. Ahmad Shahidov, Head of the Azerbaijani Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (AIDHR) read out a report that focused on rights of ethnic minorities.

Talking about ethnic minorities in South Caucasus, Head of AIDRH pointed it out that Lazgi, Avars, Georgians, Talysh, Russians, Armenians and others ethnic minorities live in Azerbaijan without any restrictions. He went on saying that in accordance with the statistical figures 120 thousand Armenians live in Azerbaijan which 30 thousand of them reside in Baku and other regions while 90 thousand of Armenian dwelled in the territory of Upper Kharabakh which is currently under occupation.

The facts highlighted by Mr. Shahidov were met by attendees with great interests and Head of AIDRH further brought it to the participants’ attention that 98.5 percent of Armenian population is constituted by ethnic Armenians and as a consequence of pressure citizens from other nations moved from this country. Referring to the official figures issued by the UN, Head of AIDHR stressed that currently 30 Azerbaijanis live in Armenia and he associated this with existing “Tolerance” in Armenia.
