The Baku Court of Appeal (BCA) scheduled for August 18 a preliminary hearing on the case of the head of the Election Monitoring and Democracy Training Center (EMDTC) Anar Mammadli and two other activists.
Recall that on May 26 the head of EMDTC Anar Mammadli was sentenced to 5.5 years of imprisonment and the executive secretary of the NGO Bashir Suleymanli was sentenced to 3.5 years. For the same period was conditionally sentenced the head of the Public Association for International Cooperation Volunteers, Elnur Mammadov.
They were found guilty of tax evasion, illegal business, assignment, etc.
According to human rights defenders, the true reason for their arrest was exposing the rigged presidential elections in Azerbaijan in October 2013.
The defense intends to achieve full justification of the convicted.
