The Baku Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal by human rights activist Rasul Jafarov of his arrest, his lawyer Fariz Namazly told Turan.
According to him, Jafarov again said he did not consider himself guilty. Defense intends to submit an application for the replacement of actual arrest by house arrest.
Jafarov was arrested Aug. 2 on charges of tax evasion, illegal entrepreneurship and abuse of office.
However, according to local and international community, he is being persecuted for political reasons for his human rights activities.
Amnesty International recognized Jafarov “prisoner of conscience.”
