The incident at the trial in the case of NIDA activists

Consideration of appeal of NIDA activists was again postponed indefinitely. Today at the trial in the Baku Court of Appeal (BCA), the defense filed an appeal against the decision of the preliminary hearing of the BCA which refused to conduct re-trial. During the trial an incident occurred between the accused and escorts who badly treated the defendants. One of the guards even tried to use tear gas against the activists, but other guard kept him.

*On May 6, 2014 Baku Serious Crimes Court found guilty Novruzlu Shahin, Mammadov Azizov, Bakhtiyar Guliyev, Rashad Hasanov, Uzeyir Mammadli, Rashadata Akhundov, Zaur Gurbanly, and Ilkin Rustamzade of planning riots during a protest on March 10, 2013, Illegal possession of explosives and narcotics, as well as disorderly conduct, and sentenced them to prison terms ranging from six to eight years. Later Bakhtiyar Guliyev wrote a petition for pardon and abandoned his appeal. Amnesty International recognized all the convicted “prisoners of conscience”.
