“Exchange of captives and hostages is a priority in the signed agreement” – Ahmad Shahidov told REAL TV

One of the highlights of the agreement signed by Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia on the logical end of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the elimination of the humanitarian consequences of the conflict, including the return of Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs to their ancestral lands and especially the exchange of military and civilian captives and hostages. Extensive research and action is expected on each clause of the agreement signed by the three parties.

Human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov told REAL Television.

According to him, the main focus is on the situation of our civilians Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev, who are being held on the Armenian side. Their exchange is clearly reflected in this agreement, and this process will be mediated by Russia. Because the Russian Federation will participate in this agreement as a country that will control the location and exchanges. However, international organizations will also be involved in the exchange of prisoners and hostages.

Ahmad Shahidov said that as part of the agreement signed between the parties, the process of exchanging Armenian and Azerbaijani captives and hostages will be organized by the Russian Federation, and the International Committee of the Red Cross is expected to attend in the coming weeks.
