Human rights activist Elshan Hasanov arrested for conducting photo shoots

The Coordinator of the Public Alliance Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners, the former “prisoner of conscience” Elshan Hasanov June 12 was detained by police at about 18:00 near the metro station Koroglu and released after 2.5 hours.

Hasanov reported he was detained when he was taking photos of the fencing installed on the underpass in the subway station Keroglu leading towards a new palace of gymnastics. As it turned out, the transition in connection with the sports arena of the European Championship in Rhythmic Gymnastics was closed to regular passengers, and it can be used only by the competitors.

Hasanov was initially taken to the police station.

There’s a police officer wanted to let him go. However, another one, checking his passport, ordered to deliver Hasanov to the Nizami district police department.

There for no reason Hasanov was held for nearly two and a half hours.

And, despite the requests of Hasanov, who is a disabled Group II, to call for a doctor, conditions for the provision of medical care were not created.
