The Armenian government is interested in preventing the process of exchanging the captives and hostages. Yesterday, the residents of Berdavan city of Armenia held a protest action demanding that Karen Kazarian to be returned from Azerbaijan. The Armenian government, in response to the protesters’ demands, said that they are not willing to exchange the captives and hostages. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian has harshly criticized the protesters and said that they will not agree with the exchange of hostages.

Commenting on the reasons why official Yerevan seriously denies the process of exchanging the captives and hostages, head of the Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov spoke to Azad Azerbaijan Television that they will continue the international pressure on the Armenian authorities: “We have always raised the question of exchanging captives and hostages on international platforms. The International Working Group has appealed to the Azerbaijani side regarding this issue. The official Baku expressed its readiness to exchange the captives and hostages on the principle of “all to all”. The Armenian side is still trying to avoid this process. Nevertheless, we are continuing our struggle and increasing the international pressure on the Armenian side”.
