“Azerbaijani State is the guarantor of the rights of national minorities” – Ahmad Shahidov responds to Emin Huseynov at the OSCE Warsaw Summit

On September 10, the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM) of OSCE participating States, organized by OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) started its work in Warsaw, Poland. Representatives of OSCE participating States, OSCE institutions, and OSCE executive structures, representatives of inter-governmental organizations, legal professionals, representatives of civil society and researchers from 57 participating States took part in discussions.

On September 14, taking an active part in discussions on the topic of “Tolerance and non-discrimination, including rights of persons belonging to national minorities, and preventing aggressive nationalism, racism and chauvinism”, Head of Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights Dr. Ahmad Shahidovspoke of Azerbaijan’s tolerance and noted that hundreds of peoples live in the South Caucasus region equally. Human rights defender Ahmad Shahidov has strongly reacted to the biased views of the IRFS chairman Emin Huseynov about the alleged “discrimination against ethnic minorities” in Azerbaijan and said that these allegations are completely false. He noted that the Azerbaijani state is the guarantor of the rights of all national minorities living in its territory, and they fully express themselves in our country: “Today, our citizens from different nations work at high posts in all stages of power in Azerbaijan and contribute to Azerbaijan’s development. There can be no ethnic problem in Azerbaijan today. Please, let’s have speeches on the topic and avoid any political conjuncture.”
