The European Parliament was informed about the killing of 2-year-old Zahra

Speaking at the European Parliament’s Human Rights Subcommittee meeting, Human Rights Defender Ahmad Shahidov said that the armenian armed forces targets the civilian population in the frontline

Ahmad Shahidov, Head of the Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, who is on a working visit in Europe, attended the public hearings held at the European Parliament’s headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, on 23 November. Participating in the public hearings organized by the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights, the Head of AIDHR made a report on the situation of children’s rights in Azerbaijan.

Referring to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Human Rights Defender informed about the civilian population, especially the minors and kids, who were killed in the conflict zone. The Head of AIDHR said that the armenian armed forces violates the cease-fire regime, targets the local population living in the front line, murders minors, and spoke on concrete facts.

Speaking about the two-year-old Zahra Guliyeva, who was killed by Armenian armed forces in Alkhanli village of Fuzuli region, the Human Rights Defender said that Armenia targets civilians in the frontline and implements it at the state level. Demonstrated the photos of the two-year-old Zahra Guliyeva and his grandmother Sahiba Guliyeva, who were brutally murdered by the Armenian army, Head of AIDHR Dr. Ahmad Shahidov described it as a vandalism act, and pointed out that such acts contravene the Geneva Conventions: “This child was murdered in Fuzuli district of Azerbaijan in July of this year. This baby, who was killed as a result of the shootings of Armenian armed forces while playing in the yards of their homes, was 2 years old. Her name was Zahra. The killing of two-year-old Zahra and her grandmother as a result of Armenian army shelling of the Alkhanli village of Fuzuli district of Azerbaijan is an intolerable international crime.
Despite a ceasefire reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan back in 1994 following the Nagorno Karabakh War, Azerbaijani civilians, including children, still became the victims of Armenian aggression. This Armenian aggression is nothing other than the act of vandalism and it once again proves the chauvinist and terrorist nature of the state of Armenia. Armenia’s direct and deliberate attacks against the Azerbaijani civilian population and civilian objects constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian and human rights law.
We strongly condemned the assassination of civilian population by armenian armed forces and describe it as a gross violation of international law, in particular the Geneva Conventions.”

Members of the European Parliament and representatives of international human rights organizations participating in the meeting stated that they would investigate the issue and adopt a relevant resolution.
