Young people from Azerbaijan and Turkey met in Istanbul – Republic Day was celebrated

On May 27, “Friendship, brotherhood and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkey in the eyes of youths” conference, organised by Reformist Youths Public Union and Young Mavera Foundation took place in Istanbul Yeni Yuzyil University. The conference was devoted to the 99th anniversary of the establishment of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Prominent young politicians, NGO leaders, journalists and representatives of the universities from Azerbaijan and Turkey attended the conference.

Opening the conference, Chairman of Reformist Youths Public Union Mr. Farid Shahbazli talked about the history of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and made speech on the important events that took place in that period. RYPU Chairman said that today’s strong and independent Azerbaijan Republic is a worthy successor of ADR.

Advisor on Turkey to the Chairman of RYPU Mr. Ismayil Hakki Shener noted in his speech that the historical relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey continue nowadays. We are proud of this friendly relationship between the peoples, states and officials of two countries, he said.

Director of International Affairs of Istanbul Aydin University Mr. Salman Arslanbash conveyed his sincere congratulations on 99th anniversary of establishment of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and highly appreciated the diplomatic, economic and cultural relations, as well as the existing relations in the field of science and education. He said that Istanbul Aydin University carried out the serious projects for further development of these relations.

Took active part in conference, Head of Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights Dr. Ahmad Shahidov spoke about past and present of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Human Rights Defender noted that Azerbaijani and Turkish diplomats support each other in international events and conferences, also emphasized that official Baku and Ankara are operating in a coordinated manner in OSCE, Council of Europe, the UN and other international organisations. Ahmad Shahidov said that the President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev strongly reacted to biased speeches towards the Turkey in a number of international events, as well as the Turkey always support Azerbaijan in Nagornoy Karabakh conflict, Khodjaly genocide and other important issues.

Then, a well-known presenter of TGRT Television Meltem Gunay, editor-in-chief of “Yeni Cag” Newspaper Agil Alaskar, correspondent of Kanal 24 Television Adam Hancher, Space TV Turkey representative Vusala Abbasova, a board member of Istanbul Rumeli University Fatih Aktash and others talked about history of ADR, drew attention to expansion and strengthening of Azerbaijani-Turkey relations.

At the end of conference, a group of persons were awarded honorary diplomas by Reformist Youths Public Union for their activity in the field of education, media and youth policy.
