Silent protest on hostages of Khalbajar district to be held at the European Parliament

Human rights defender held a silent protest on demanding release of Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev, hostages of Kalbajar district, through the display of their photos

Being invited to the European Parliament debates “Tendencies of Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia” to be held in Brussels, Belgium on February 16, Ahmad Shahidov, head of Azerbaijani Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (AIDHR) held a silent protest prior the debates. Displaying photos of Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev, hostages of Kalbajar district, human rights defender demanded their release.

Law enforcers of the European Parliament interrupted silent protest of human rights defender. Nevertheless, human rights defender could manage to demonstrate photos of Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev to European diplomats.

In his statement Mr. Shahidov noted that he did what he out to do and regardless of intervention he considers the protest successful. He also intends to conduct similar action during his upcoming visits to European countries.
