“Let’s save our children!” – Ahmad Shahidov addresses to the Gulf countries

Head of AIDHR talks to international human rights conference to be held in Qatar about killings of children in conflict-ridden countries

The international human rights conference to be organized by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and Qatar National Human Rights Committee has been held in Doha, Qatar on January 13-14, 2016. The regional conference on the Role of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Promoting and Protecting Human Rights in the Arab Region attended by human rights defenders and experts across the world.

Ahmad Shahidov, Head of Azerbaijani Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (AIDHR) who also attended the conference touched on recent conflicts in the world; in particular he underscored death of children during wars, conflicts in the Muslim countries. Mainly focusing on killings of innocent civilians, human right advocate noted that Azerbaijan suffered from this very problem as well. He recalled killings of hundreds of innocent children during Nagorno Kharabakh conflict. The statement reads; “Erupted conflicts in Iraq, Syria, Palestine and other Muslim countries deeply concerns us. It is indeed a horrible tragedy to witness killings of children. We also experienced the same tragedies and they left traces in our hearts. Therefore, what happen in Iraq and Syria makes us sad. Seizing this opportunity I would like to address Muslim Arab communities, in particular Gulf countries which are leading force of the Muslim world and say that let’s not turn a blind eye to the deaths of children, they are our hopes”.
