Trial in the case of Ganja activist Hasan Huseynli
A preliminary hearing in the case of Hasan Huseynli, the head of Ganja NGO “Enlightenment Center Intelligent Citizen” took place in the Nizami district court of Ganja , chaired by Judge Ayaz Makhmudov on June 5. He was charged under the Article 221.3 of the Criminal Code (“Hooliganism committed with weapons or objects used as weapons.”) According to investigators, Huseynli allegedly stabbed a resident of Ganja, Arzu Gahramanova. Huseynli remains under no exit.
According to the lawyer Alaif Hasanov, at the preparatory trial the defense made two motions: to return the case to the prosecutor overseeing the procedural investigation. Defense motivated this by flagrant violation of procedural norms and rights of Huseynli during arrest.
Thus, after the arrest on March 31, he was not provided with a lawyer, and his family members were not notified about the arrest of Huseynli.
According to the lawyer, in this case it is a violation of the rights guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights. However, the judge denied the motion. The second petition was due to the necessity of conducting video process and familiarizing materials to business surveys . But this request was rejected by the judge. Consideration of the case is scheduled for 12:00 on June 13.
The lawyer also said that Qahramanov slandered Huseynli.
“Protection has information about the identity of the man, and at the trial, we will reveal these facts,” said the lawyer Hasanli. The NGO “Intelligent Citizen” (ICEC) http://www.kamilv.az/ was founded in 2004. The Organization received state registration in February 2009.
The main mission of this NGO is the dissemination of ideas of an open society in the Western region of Azerbaijan. For this purpose were conducted enlightenment activities of civil society, the main target group of projects is youth.
