Summer Session of PACE features hearings on Azerbaijan – VIDEO

On June 23 the next session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has continued in Strasbourg, France. The panel discussion which held afternoon dedicated to the functioning of democratic institutions in Azerbaijan. A report on the subject has been presented by the co-rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee on Azerbaijan Pedro Agramunt and Tadeusz Iwinski.

The discussions featured criticisms against Baku and as well as double standards towards Azerbaijan. A number of European MPs characterised Azerbaijan as the country which is capable of putting an end to Europe’s energy dependence on Russia. They also acknowledged Armenia as the occupier of Nagorno Kharabakh and seven adjacent regions and urged world community to support Azerbaijan fair stance on this conflict.

Joining the hearings Ahmad Shahidov, Head of the Azerbaijani Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (AIDHR) shared his viewpoints with regard to discussions on Azerbaijan.
