AIDHR: “Detention of young member of Musavat party deteriorates Azerbaijani image in an international level”

Azerbaijani Institute for Democracy and Human Rights will raise the issue of Faraj Kerimli’s detention during OSCE meeting to be organized in Warsaw

Faraj Kerimli, Deputy Chairman of the Youth Wing of the “Musavat” party was detained by law enforcers on July 23. In a statement, the Ministry of Interior said that he was accused of drug possession.
Azerbaijani Institute for Democracy and Human Rights declares that the tendency of arresting young social-political activists with the accusation of drug possession turned to be inadmissible and this very fact makes citizens reluctant on relaying on law enforcers.
On July 17 Karimli’s brother Siraj Kerimli was arrested by law enforcers as well at his work place and his personal computer was confiscated by police. These arrests cause concerns and create an impression that Faraj and Siraj Kerimli brothers were arrested because of their social-political activities.
Azerbaijani Institute for Democracy and Human Rights closely follows Faraj Kerimli case and will keep European diplomats informed on this issue in the frame of OSCE meeting to be held in Warsaw on September 22.
Azerbaijani Institute for Democracy and Human Rights calls on Azerbaijani government to fairly investigate these cases which highly deteriorate Azerbaijani image in an international level and we also hope that prosecution against social-political activists will be ended.
